Your questions - our answers

round about our vibration dampers and our company

Welcome to our website. This means you have already taken the first step to perfectly protect your applications against vibrations. To clarify your first questions in advance, we have summarized the "frequently asked questions" of the past for you. These revolve around both our internal processes and our vibration dampers and machine feet and the associated technology at the top of the list. If you have additional questions that are not listed here, please feel free to contact us at any time. Your appropriate contact will be happy to assist you.

Processing and settlement

I would like to place an order. Where can I send these?

We have an extra mail address order@rgplus.de. In principle, you can also send your order to any of our employees. He will then forward the corresponding document.

What is your business and how do your parts work?
At this point we could shower you with information that you can already find on our homepage. Our business in only a few words: We calculate and sell vibration dampers made of wire mesh. A stainless-steel wire therefore is used as the main material, which is knitted into itself. All basic information about our damping cushions can be found in the article "vibration dampers of knitted wire mesh - what is this" on our blog.

I forget the vibration dampers - how quickly can you help me?

We have made it our goal to pick you up as quickly as possible where it is needed. This means, we want to find a fast and uncomplicated solution. Due to our company size, you have the most important contacts from technology and sales directly at hand. If you are in a hurry and your delivery date is in the near future, we are happy to use standard elements that will be with you within a very short time. Small quantities of our vibration dampers are usually available from stock within 1 week. In case of acute demand, express delivery is also possible within 2-3 days.

Do you sell your elements only in Germany or worldwide?
As a small company, we have our main sales area in the DACH region. Nevertheless, we also supply customers worldwide.

Since you sell your elements worldwide, do you have international contacts?
No. Your contact is always made via our headquarters in Bochum. Our engineers and office staff will be happy to help you with your technical and logistical questions at any time.

I have ordered the wrong dampers - what can I do?

If, for whatever reason, you do not have the right dampers in house, please contact us as soon as possible. Since steel has the advantage of being resistant to aging, there is the possibility of an exchange here and there, especially with our standard elements. If this is not the case, we will of course still try to find the best and most uncomplicated solution for you.

Engineering & Processes

What advantages do your vibration dampers have over others?

We do not want to repeat ourselves and gladly refer you to our answers of the simple question "Why vibration dampers". Nevertheless, you should keep in mind that vibration dampers made of knitted wire mesh offer many benefits. These are, for example, their durability or temperature resistance. In addition, the compact design, as well as their resistance to acids, bases, oils, greases or even corrosion.

I need to integrate your elements into an existing construction - does that work?
In principle, this is possible. Here, it depends on the existing unit and its periphery. A subsequent integration of oscillating elements always offers the problem that the overall heights of the applications change. If no connections are affected, it should be possible to carry out a subsequent installation. If connection dimensions of the system periphery no longer fit due to a subsequent installation, these must be adjusted, which is often very annoying and time-consuming. For this reason, it is generally advisable to check the use of anti-vibration elements during the planning stage.

Can I reduce structure-borne noise with your elements?
No, you can't. In this field, vibration dampers made of knitted wire mesh are at a clear disadvantage to those made of elastomers. If damping structure-borne noise is your top priority, we expressly advise against using our elements.

I have radial forces in my system - do your cushions absorb these?

In principle, yes, but the cushions must be specially encapsulated for this. If you use individual cushions, the corresponding periphery must be built by you. If you need an "all-in-one" solution, we recommend our GDZ-()-7 series, which has an additional cushion for radial forces in addition to the axial cushions. Thus, these forces can be absorbed in a defined and converted in a controlled manner.

You talk about advantages over other dampers - what are the disadvantages?

In the area of structure-borne noise, it is not recommended to use pure metal dampers. Due to the material properties of stainless steel, this is largely transmitted along the wires and you basically don't achieve any noticeable effect. Do you have machines that do not have a very long service life? Here, it is advisable to reconsider the use of vibration dampers made of knitted wire, as they could outlive the machines.

I use other dampers so far - can I replace them with yours?

In principle, this is possible, but it depends on the system. Dampers made of knitted stainless-steel differ from their alternatives, among other things, in the areas of static load absorption per surface and natural frequency. Therefore, in the case of a potential conversion, it should be checked in any case whether a change makes sense or not.

Are your elements resistant to demolition?
Yes and no. Machine feet and leveling feet, are not fixed to the floor and are therefore not break-resistant. Spring elements, if they are subjected to excessive tensile or radial loads, also do not offer breakaway safety. If you need this safety, especially in transient applications, we recommend compression-tension dampers of the GDZ series or flange bearing connections of the GBL series. These can be loaded in compression and tension, offer very good damping and are tear-resistant.

Hydrogen is an ever-growing topic - can I protect my application with your elements?

As with all critical components, it is generally advisable to protect them against external influences. The same applies to system components that are designed for use with hydrogen. However, as long as the vibration dampers do not come into contact with the fluid itself, it doesn't matter whether you use wire mesh, elastomers or other types of dampers.

Damping cushion of stainless-steel

What advantages do your vibration dampers have over others?

We do not want to repeat ourselves and gladly refer you to our answers of the simple question "Why vibration dampers". Nevertheless, you should keep in mind that vibration dampers made of knitted wire mesh offer many benefits. These are, for example, their durability or temperature resistance. In addition, the compact design, as well as their resistance to acids, bases, oils, greases or even corrosion.

I need shapes outside the standard - is this possible?

In principle, this is possible, although we always have to discuss such requests with our knitting factory first. Special shapes such as bevels or a special drilling pattern have already been successfully implemented in the past. Incidentally, cushions with particularly low heights (<5mm) are also considered a special form.

How does the load absorption of your damping cushions differ from other decoupling elements?

Vibration dampers made of wire mesh have a very progressive characteristic. This means that they are very soft compared to springs or elastomeric dampers, especially in the lower load range. In return, stiffness is high in the higher load ranges, which enables the machine to stand more quietly during potential force peaks.

What different shapes and materials of damping cushions are there?

Standard elements are available in either square or cylindrical shapes and with or without a central hole. In addition, a cushioning element can be manufactured with a collar or a heel. This allows you to integrate the vibration damper into your system using a simple screw connection to save as much space as possible.

1.4301 and 1.4404 are available as standard materials. If higher corrosion or temperature resistance is required, 1.4571 or 2.4851 can be knitted either.

Are there different degrees of hardness?

The degree of hardness of a damping cushion is directly related to the packing density. It can be the case that the same shapes have different hardnesses, comparable to vibration dampers made of other materials. Also analogous to these vibration dampers, this influences the natural frequency of the cushion.

What is the natural frequency of your damping cushions?

Vibration dampers made of wire mesh work in a frequency range between 15 and 35 Hz. This is influenced by the packing density of the respective volume. By stacking the elements and thereby increasing the deflection, this frequency can be reduced to 12 Hz.

How do I calculate the natural frequencies of damping cushions?

Since the characteristics are progressive and as a result the stiffness in the system is not constant, you cannot calculate the natural frequencies directly from the deflection. Likewise, calculating the natural frequency is not difficult using a load-displacement diagram and a tangent at the operating point. Please feel free to contact us about this.
